Leon RosselsonJanet RussellTis the voice of the people. That's the song we began with at the Square Chapel in Halifax on 2nd December 2009. There were 200 paying customers and we were the backing group for Leon Rosselson - that's him in action on the left - who was headlining a short tour to celebrate his 75th birthday, and his 50 years on the road as a singer-songwriter.

The other featured singers were Janet Russell (pictured right, though you can also glimpse her in the background of Leon's picture adjusting something important), Sandra Kerr and Martin Carthy (pictured below)

We also sang some of our own repertoire. Here are mp3's of most of the songs we sang, including our spoken introductions (and Leon's to 'Still is the memory'). Click on the song-title to download and play:

* 'Voice of the people' (Chartist song by WHC, arranged by John Jordan, with additional lyrics by Henry Peacock)

* 'I swear' written by Shannon Smy, arr. Kirsty Martin (see the website for Shannon's band Seize the day here)

* 'Still is the memory' by Leon Rosselson (his website is here)

* 'Overnight' by Robb Johnson arr Janet Russell. Here's Robb's website.
