New features

Choir members can now download mp3s of songs we're currently learning. Go to 'practice tracks'. You'll need the user name and password. Email Alan if you've forgotten them.

We now have a 'friends' page featuring other local choirs and singing groups. Click here for more information including pictures of previous Corista, Men folk waits and open mic gigs.

Calder Valley Voices is a community choir based in Hebden Bridge (though some of our members come from as far away as, yes, Halifax and Todmorden). We sing together for enjoyment and run our own affairs. Our new term started on Thursday January 14th 2010 with a new musical director, Carol Donaldson.

We perform sometimes at local events, by invitation to special or private events, or at festivals such as national Street Choirs events.

Most recently we were part of a concert at the Square Chapel in Halifax on Weds Dec 2nd featuring Leon Rosselson (to celebrate his 50 years in song) and many others including Martin Carthy. Pictures and recordings here. Before that in November 2009 a group of us sang at the Raise Your banners festival in Bradford, and a month earlier at the Incredible Edible Todmorden harvest festival: here's a picture (sorry about the quality). And here are some pictures from our summer outings: during Hebden Bridge arts festival, at Hebden Bridge's Handmade Parade, and at a picnic with members of other choirs at Clarion House Nelson on the Summer Solstice. We also performed at the StreetChoirs Festival in Whitby in July: pictures here. And do have a look at some pictures of our local concert in May 2009.

But mostly we're just singing together for fun. Here for instance is one version of fun: a picnic on Blackstone Edge, on the Yorkshire/Lancashire border, on a windswept May 3rd, singing Chartist songs with choir members from Halifax, Burnley, Bolton and Calder Valley Women's Choir. We have regular workshops too: here are some pictures of Jules Gibb's in June featuring West Gallery songs.

We meet in the Methodist Church Hall at the junction of Hebble End and Market Street, Hebden Bridge. There are over 50 of us at the moment: do join us!
